Type of construction: SIP panel and frame, day lighting.
Green features: SIP roof, low volt lighting, hardi-plank siding. Over the course of 2 years JBC has added office space and classrooms to the Carbondale community school.  By working closely with A4 Architects we stayed in budget and on time while using unconventional interior and exterior finished that had green attributes. Sip technology was chosen for the roof because of its energy efficiency and fast assembly.

O'Kaine Residence

Type of construction: Straw bale wall, timber frame, sip roof
Green features: Active and passive solar system, radiant floor, stained concrete floors. Situated adjacent to four mile creek the O’kaine residence is a superb example of site awareness and ecological sensitivity. The client was committed to maximizing the use of a challenging lot shape and condition. One of a few multi story straw bales houses built, it meets the clients desire to have light site impact by minimizing the building foot print on the site and carbon foot print by using locally available materials.

Ella Bistro

Use: Restaurant
Type of construction: Restored brick and new addition light wood frame, re-plumbed and re-wired for a new kitchen and state-of-the-art system.
Green features: Reviving An existing urban structure, highly insulated, durable long lasting materials.

We decided in the beginning that builders and designers would need to work together to implement the clients’ vision for this project. We re-habilitate a turn of the century brick building retaining its long history as an eating and drinking establishment while transforming it into a modern bistro.

Paint Store

Use: Mixed use – commercial/residential
Type of construction: ICF walls and foundation, sip second floor and roof.
Green features: Efficient building technologies, radiant heat, passive radiant cooling, and stained concrete floors.

The paint store building is on the leading edge of an area in transformation, from commercial to mixed use. The building technologies used reduced waste during construction and make the building thermally efficient for a lifetime.  The interior finishes were changed according the use of each discrete space.

Chinn Residence

Type of construction: Moved and refurbished entire building , light wood frame construction addition, historic remodel.
Green features: Reclaimed structure, beetle kill siding, radiant heating, blow-in insulation.

After moving the 1890 farm house, homestead cabin, and barn to a new location, the work of giving new life to these structures was just beginning. The design build process worked well to accommodate the clients specific request that all the building techniques match those that would have been used at the turn of the century, while making the home more thermally efficient and compatible with the demands of modern life. 

Stark Mesa Residence

Type of construction: Straw bale walls, reclaimed timber frame, icf foundation/basement.
Green features: Passive solar, radiant heat, low voc paints and sealers, stucco, plaster finishes, reclaimed materials.

This is a family residence that suites the needs of a growing, dynamic family. All the materials used were carefully chosen to accommodate the environmentally minded owners requests and reduce the visual as well as ecological impact the new buildings would have on the site.

Use: Residential single family guest cabin
Type of construction: ICF foundation and wall structure, pre-fabricated roof trusses.
Green features: ICF foundation and wall, passive solar design, blown in insulation, reclaimed siding and finish materials.

This small residential space illustrates efficient design and low waste construction techniques.  ICF Is thermally efficient and produces close to zero waste in the construction process. The design and material choices allow for maximum use of passive solar advantages while still maintaining the look of the ranch vernacular. Other energy efficient features include: radiant heating, low volt lighting, and a passive solar ventilation fan unit.
